ImproVox: In 2003 Martin and some friends got together ‘just to SING’ - without selected music, without pre-written songs...without a NET! The improvisational results were exciting enough that the group claimed a name and is quickly gaining a reputation for innovative accapella improvisational music. The group has studied under the Master tutelage of Rhiannon, a member of Bobby McFerrons’ “Voicestra” and with Julie Goell, a world-class music/performance instructor. ImproVox continues exploring and sharing this exciting new genre of music through performances and "VORTEX" sing-along workshops across Maine and at national Literacy, Music and Dance gatherings. The music employs intricate scaffolding of rich harmonies, story/poetry and movement/theatre elements which surprise an thrill audiences. ImproVox has collaborated with improvisational dance companies, offered participatory workshops at high schools, retreats and festivals, provided soundscape for healing workshops and sung the art in galleries. Songwriting Class: Martin has been teaching songwriting to students of all ages for 10 years. Initially teaching songwriting skills to K-7 students through school residencies, Martin has expanded his offerings to community and adult students through Arts organizations and Adult Education programs. Martin specializes in creating songs for community events which invite participants to help write the song. Martin assists individual songwriters as well as groups. Cafe' Noir House Concerts: Martin and his partner, Brian Kaufman host house concerts (irregularly) in their living room in Augusta, Maine. The event begins with a pot-luck, enjoys an hour and a half of live music then resumes socializing. Cafe' Noir presents local and touring artists - always high quality musicianship. A REQUESTED $12 donation goes to the performing artist. Sometimes the events are fundraisers for political or social causes and the requested donation may be a different amount.
